This report is an overview of design of energy efficient building by using solar based energy efficient technologies. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the cost and feasibility of using photovoltaic solar power to assist in the rebuilding of the infrastructure. The thesis examines available solar equipment and technologies coupled with requirements for operation, installation and maintenance of such systems. The report addresses available commercial solar equipment and emerging technologies that enhance such systems. This section addresses areas including installation, operation, maintenance, and durability Finally, the report presents the results of investigations on the application of photovoltaic PV power generating systems for utilization in Thapar university j-hostel with a typical residential load. Generation and storage units for each system are properly sized in order to meet the annual load and minimize the total annual cost to the customer. In addition, an economic analysis has been performed for the PV scenarios and is used to justify the use of renewable energy versus constructing a line extension from the nearest existing power line to supply the load with conventional power.en
