| dc.description.abstract | In this thesis some variants of the transportation problem have been discussed which includes constrained transportation problem, time minimization transportation problem, two stage transportation problem and bi-criteria transportation problem. The present thesis contains four chapters. Chapter one is introductory in nature. This chapter includes basic definitions and concepts used throughout the work and a brief review of the work done in this area. In Chapter two, the problem of minimizing dead mileage in transport system is discussed with upper and lower bounds on source availabilities and destination requirements. In chapter three, a two-stage interval time minimization problem is studied where minimum amount available at each source is shipped to the destination in the first stage and enough quantity of the product is shipped in second stage to meet the demand at destinations exactly. In chapter four, a cost time trade off in a constrained transportation problem has been discussed. Further, numerical examples are solved in support of the algorithms discussed in the thesis. | en |
