dc.description.abstractL-lysine is an important amino acid in animal nutrition and used as a feed additive to enhance the nutritional value. Lysine can be produced by inducing mutation in the Corynebacteria sps. Study was conducted to enhance lysine production by Corynebacterium glutamicum, strains MTCC1815 and MTCC 2745. The bacteria was mutated by exposure to UV. Mutants resistant to aminoethyl cysteine (AEC) and threonine methionine double auxotroph were isolated. The mutants were screened for lysine production qualitatively and quantatively. AEC resistant mutant and auxotrophic mutant with maximum of 0.2 and 0.6 g/l respectively were obtained. Time profile of fermentation was studied, maximum production was obtained after 48 hrs. Glucose was found to be best carbon source to obtain high lysine yield.en
