In this thesis work an attempt has been made to propose a suitable voltage stability index (VSI) for distribution network. An exhaustive literature survey in voltage stability index has been carried out. The VSIs available in literature are based on reduction of network, which gave the inexact result. The available VSIs did not include the voltage angle. The proposed VSI has been derived without reduction of the network and without neglecting the voltage angle. The proposed method has been tested on a 85-node radial distribution network for constant power, constant current, constant impedance, composite and exponential load modeling for substation voltage 1.000 p.u., 1.025 p.u. and 1.050 p.u. respectively. The proposed result obtained by the proposed method has been compared with the other method proposed by Chakravorty and Das [19]. To derive the results, the load-flow proposed by Ghosh [34] has been used in this thesis work. The line and load data are available in [35].en
