Abstract

Present study was focussed on investigation of biochemical and histological changes during in vitro rooting of microcuttings of Bacopa monnieri. Root emergence was observed after 7 days. Three different rooting phases namely induction, initiation and elongation were found to be marked with characteristic biochemical changes. Results revealed that root formation and elongation requires higher proteins, phenols and sugar contents, whereas antioxidative activity was found to decrease during this process. Furthermore, active cell division was observed during rooting initiation phase and was followed by root primordial formation in subsequent phases.
