The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of personality characteristics (neuroticism and Psychoticism) and external locus of control (chance & others) on alcoholism of men in Punjab. The study was conducted on those people who were suffering from the social, work, health and family problems. SADQ was used to measure the level of regular alcohol intake of the individual. Levenson Multi-dimensional locus of control test was utilized to compute the external locus of control and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire was used to measure psychoticism and neuroticism. It was hypothesized that individuals with high neuroticism and psychoticism scores show high scores on alcohol severity test. Also it was predicted that people with excessive outer locus of control (chance and powerful others) scores show high score on alcohol severity test. Regression and t test were used for analyzing the data. The findings of the study confirmed both hypotheses that individuals who had high scores on neuroticism, psychoticism, chance and powerful others scored high on alcohol severity test.en_US
