Abstract
High altitide army deployment require mass housing . Such tenaments essentially have to be so designed that they can be prefabricated with inbuilt insulation , transpotration facility as well as stacking capability so as to occupy minimum space .Sudden army movements from stratigic points of view require folding up of the prefabricated tenaments , shifting to other locations and reinstallation at subsequent positions . With a view to design such a tenament henceforth called a 'shelter' , the present design has been undertaken . A pre-existing alsorithim at Punjab Engineering Collage , Department of civil Engineering , namely "SPACE.FOR" has been used . The programme uses stiffness approach with inbuilt facility for several kinds of loads like vertical concenterated loads , horizontal loads WH, complex loads , uniformly distributed loads etc. and optimization facility loading to an optimal solution . Economical design thus has been obtained . The air lifting condition has been analysed . It is possible to stack the shelter one above the other thus economising the secarce space in for hilly terrains . Compacted polysthene insulation inside the fiber rainforced plastic walls , not only ensures adequate strength but also provides necesary thermal insulation . Provision for army instrument positioning within the shelter has been provided . These shelters can be used for other agencies under specific environmental conditions such as oil exploration operations or expenditions like Antarctica expeditions.
