A Statistical Analysis of the Attitude of the Users towards Library of the Thapar University, Patiala and the Punjabi University, Patiala

Abstract

Libraries occupy an important place in each university. In the present study an effort has been made to investigate statistically the attitude of the users toward library of Thapar University and Punjabi University, Patiala. A questionnaire based on the Likert scale and the Thurston scale is used to collect the data. A sample of fifty users is taken from each university and alternate reliability method was used to test the reliability of the two scales. T-ratio is the statistical technique which is used to study the significance difference between the attitudes of the users of both the universities. The thesis consists of three chapters. Chapter I is introductory in nature. In this chapter we explain in brief the significance of studying the attitude of users towards library. A brief survey of the literature available on the subject is presented in it. A brief summary of work, some basic definition of statistics that will used in the analysis are explained in it. The functions and services of library of Thapar University, Patiala and Punjabi University, Patiala are discussed in this chapter. Statistical study of the problem is discussed in chapter II. In this chapter we have discussed the methodology to collect data. For this Likert scale and Thurston scale have been used. Reliability of these scales has then been tested. The analysis based on the Thurston and likert scale is also explained in this chapter. Limitation and further scope of the work in the present thesis is finally discussed in the concluding chapter III. Certain conclusions based on the present work are also drawn in this chapter.
