dc.description.abstractSoftware Process Improvement (SPI) is a systematic approach and continuous improvement of software development organization’s ability to produce and deliver quality software within time and budget constraints [1]. In the course of this project, the researcher proposed, developed, verified and validated such a model. This thesis work presents a fit for use approach to software process improvement model for improving the overall process. This thesis work concentrates on improvement in process as well as in organisation. This model is based on experience gained on projects by software companies. This thesis work covers assessment, software process improvement, factors that influence the software process improvement. The aim is to develop a model which would be useful in practice for software development companies. This thesis work describes the principles of software process improvement and improvement models. The proposed model is a generic model which is beneficial for a small firm as well as a large firm. This proposed model does not focus only on quality assurance but also the culture of the organization. It describes how this model can be used to guide software organizations in process improvement, and the various assessment and evaluation methods.en
