Abstract
In today’s global scenario Indian banking Industry dominates the majority of the GDP
and is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, and comprises of 70% of the
market share. There are many factors that have an influential impact on the
functioning of the Banking Sector in India, majorly the drivers of change. The current
study examines the impact of the drivers of change i.e. Digitalization, demonetization
and consolidation of banks) as factors affecting Training and Development. The
Indian Banking Sector has evolved with the dynamic environment which makes it
important to adopt the strategies and programs that help to train and develop the
employees in an effective and an efficient manner.
The study comprises of three factors, viz. digitalization, demonetization and
consolidation of banks which along with training and development strategies of the
banks, affect the overall performance of the banks. The study is based on the data
collected from managerial and non-managerial bank employees from North India. The
balanced scorecard is used to determine the performance of the banks with the help of
four perspectives i.e. Financial, Customer, Innovative and Growth perspective.
The need to study the environment of employees to train and aid to their development
is the basis of any organization. Every job to be done in an efficient manner requires
new dimensions and variety. Job Enrichment helps in adding value to an employee
through various techniques and programs. Hence, is one of the major factors in
influencing the Banking Sector Performance.
There is an urge to study the impact of the external and the internal factors that affect
the Banking Sector Performance. This study’s major aim is to determine the
importance of training and development for the employees of the Banking Sector to
enable them to work in any circumstances with more efficiency and understand the
dynamic and progressive environment.
Partial Least Square-Structured Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to
determine the relation among the drivers of change viz. digitalization, demonetization,
consolidation of banks with Banking Sector Performance. The study examines the
mediating role of training between drivers of change and Banking Sector
Performance. Job Enrichment is also used as a factor influencing banking

performance and its direct role on banking performance is considered. The results
suggest that training along with drivers of change and job enrichment influenced bank
performance.
This study suggests that the impact of digitalization, demonetization and
consolidation of banks on banking performance improved with mediation effect of
training. The present research also highlights that in types of training, special training
needed more focus. The study implies the need to focus on training to enhance
banking performance.
