A methodology is proposed to solve the load flow solution of radial and meshed distribution networks using Fuzzy-PSO. To reduce the effective loss of the system, an approach for optimal DG size has been computed using a hybrid ABC-CS algorithm. The locations of DG units are the principal reasons for placement of DGs in the electric radial distribution networks. These investigations allow another deterministic technique that decides exact location for DG arrangement. The exact nodes for DG placement have been computed using the loss sensitive factors. The multi DG placement have given better results compared to the single DG placement. The proposed method has been implemented on 33-node, 69-node radial and 85-node meshed distribution networks and the results obtained by the proposed method have been compared with the other existing methods. In this thesis an exact voltage stability index (VSI) has been proposed considering the voltage angle. The VSI indices have been calculated using the proposed load flow solution. The voltage stability indices obtained by the proposed method with other two existing VSI indices have been compared. The VSI values have also been computed before and after DG placement. The above three distribution networks have been considered for the computation of VSI using the proposed VSI index and by the existing VSI indices. The placement of only multi DGs cannot give the major loss reduction. Also, it is true that only the network reconfiguration cannot give the sufficient loss reduction. The network reconfiguration along with the multi DG placement in the reconfigured networks can give the better results. The hybrid algorithm ABC-CS is used here for network reconfiguration. The results obtained by the proposed method have also been compared with the other existing methods. The proposed method gives better results compared to the other existing methods.en_US
