Abstract
Wireless sensor network has revolutionized the networking field due to their
capabilities to provide data anytime, anywhere and anyhow. This ability of wireless
revolution has also opened the other arenas, such as MANET, VANET and wireless
sensor networks.
The wireless sensor network (WSN) has proved to be useful in the different filed of
the applications, where the traditional network have failed. It is their characteristics
like limited power consumption, ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions,
ability to cope with the node failures, Mobility of nodes, Dynamic network topology,
heterogeneity of nodes, large scale of deployment, handling unattended operations
which provide them the ability to solve the complex problems such as temperature
control, humidity control, vehicular movement, lightening conditions, pressure, soil
make up, noise levels, the presence or absence of certain kinds of objects, mechanical
stress levels on attached objects, the current characteristics such as speed, direction,
and size of an object.
As wireless sensor network has changed the definition of the networking field by
providing data anywhere, anytime and anyhow but there are some factors that
influences the working of WSN and one of them in the power consumption and
battery life of the sensor nodes. In this work a power aware protocol has been
proposed. The major factor that is affecting the routing is considered as the battery
life of the sensor nodes working within the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). Further
the battery life of the sensor nodes being the major concern in WSN, so this work
proposed a routing approach that can efficiently increase the battery life of the sensor
nodes.
