Abstract
The greatest natural resource that any country can rely on to attain the pinnacle of prosperity
is adolescents. Adolescents reared in intact home environments are more emotionally
competent than those who are raised outside of intact families. The home is the place where a
person experiences complete physical, mental, emotional, and cultural growth. Additionally,
young adolescents who regularly receive emotional coaching from their parents have better
bodily health and achieve academically higher standards than young adolescents whose
families do not provide this support. The present study aims to analyse the relationship
between the home environment and the emotional competence of children. The study
included 120 participants (N= 120) of the age range, 14-16 years, from which sixty were
males (N= 60) and sixty females (N= 60). The results indicate that reward and permissiveness
dimensions of home environment predict emotional competence of the child. 33.6% variance
in emotional competence was explained by reward and permissiveness as indicated by
adjusted R square. Further reward, participation in home affairs, and control predicts
empathy. 34.4% variance in empathy was explained by reward, participation in home affairs
and control as indicated by adjusted R square. The present study is a humble effort to analyse
the relationship between the above-mentioned variables with the help of correlation and
regression.
