Cu(OH)2 is prepared by a sol-gel method and characterized by X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and vibrating sample magnetometer. The Cu(OH)2 is found to decompose into CuO on heating. Nanocrystalline and bulk CuO samples are prepared by heating the Cu(OH)2 at 300 and 1000 0C respectively. The Cu(OH)2, nanocrystalline CuO and bulk CuO are found to be antiferromagnetic at room temperature. The magnetization of CuO is found to increase with decreasing crystallite size.en
