Abstract: Recent advancements in computer technology and availability have allowed the computer industry to develop hardware and software applications that address the needs of the physically disabled .The concept of “voice controlled home automation” or “voice controlled smart home” is not new. In fact, integrated home systems have been offered since the 1960s. There furthermore, most of the industries invest in developing communication networks, but not much on the applications or appliances themselves. This thesis proposes device control technique using speech recognition technique. The key technology to realize the system is (1) distant-talking speech recognition and (2) the control of devices/machines at remote location. This thesis first does the speech recognition using the functions available in LabVIEW (Virtual Instrumentation). Next, the possibility of remote control using LabVIEW to control such devices is proposed. DTMF (Dual Tone Multiple Frequency) signal is used to remote control of devices. The objective of the Virtual Laboratory for the Disabled is to create a realistic, real-time, electrical engineering virtual laboratory. This project targets individuals who do not have adequate mobility of their upper bodies to perform laboratory experiments. To provide a more realistic and enhanced learning experience, the users of the virtual laboratory are allowed the freedom to control the devices and machines using just by speaking the machine number.
