Abstract: | A catalyst free, facile and green route has been identified for the synthesis of -keto sulfones through highly efficient water promoted sulfa-Michael addition. Sulfonyl hydrazones have been exploited as magnificent sulfonyl anion surrogate in presence of water with enones and with other α, β unsaturated alkenes for the synthesis of functionalized sulfones. To test the feasibility of the reaction a number of substituent has been screened and to our delight we got good to excellent yield with all substitutions. Further, to check the scalability of the transformation a reaction was set-up with one gm scale of starting materials and the higher yield of product proves that this transformation might be useful at industrial scale. |
